Voivod - Killing Technology (1987)

If you're going to download any Voivod album this has to be the one you go for. Voivod had a primitive start churning out some energetic albeit undeveloped punkish speed metal. The spirit and aggression was never in question but the songwriting was and most of the songs on the first 2 albums sounding like almost carbon copies of each other. On Killing Technology they really step up the songwriting and the songs actually stick to your memory more through great hooks and clearer riffs.

The selling point of Voivod is how off kilter and unique their brand of thrash was. The vocals more influenced by punk and even new wave with a clear sarcastic tone which was a refreshing alternative to the monotonous bark most thrash had. When you throw in the otherworld atmosphere into the mix, which was more developed on this album, you have a must have album to hear from the genre of thrash and one which is well worth a download.

Stand out tracks from the album would definitely be "Overreaction" which it's great midpoint thrash break, Also the ultra catchy "Ravenous Medicine" and the title track. However all of the songs are worth hearing. No filler on here. When it comes to other Voivod records I always take a raincheck, be it because the early stuff is too underdeveloped or because the later stuff is too progressive. However this album was the peak of their thrash era and balanced a good production with catchy songs and riffs with a prog leaning. Check out a download of the songs I recommended and buy it from Amazon if you dig it.
