Sodom - Tapping The Vein (1992)

This is an often overlooked classic album from Sodom you can get a music download for. Sodom have always been well renowned as part of the Teutonic Thrash trio along with Kreator and Destruction. They were part of the first echoes of Death and Black Metal in the early 80's with their first EP, "Outbreak of Evil". They then fleshed their sound out to become one of the top thrash bands in the world with 1987's "Persecution Mania" and the album which is considered their pinnacle by many, 1989's "Agent Orange".

However, for me I'd much rather hear this offering from 1992. The curtain had come down on the thrash scene at this time and the fat lady had finished singing. However Tom Angelripper and co were too busy churning out this classic to notice. It's clear from the music here they had one eye on the blossoming American death metal movement which was at it's peak at this time. Tapping The Vein can be described as a death/thrash album somewhat and the tone of the production and the vocals is more heavy than before, it's also more accomplished and clear. Everything sounds more furious and rabid than the more "by the book" approach of their 80's albums. That being said one thing hasn't changed, the RIFFS! There's plenty of great headbanging moments on here which make it a real gem of a record and well worth a download.
